Oriol Marès is a clarinet player born in Barcelona and currently based in Rotterdam. His work is centred in the sound of the clarinet, aiming to showcase the richness of the instrument. Improvisation, enthusiasm and authenticity are the main forces which are embodied in every step he takes in his musical career. Through Latin music, he searches for uncharted territories of his artistic scope.
He graduated with a cum laude in Latin Clarinet at Codarts – University for the Arts under the guidance of Alex Simu. He is doing now his Master's degree.
Rotterdam has provided the opportunity for him to collaborate with a variety of artists in different settings and expand his overview of Latin-jazz, performing with the Pop Orchestra and World Music, among others.
He collaborated with the artist Antoni Miralda, in Santa Eulalia 175 and co-composed the sound installation for El Bulli 1846, in the context of Saint Stomak Project. He was a member of Ricciotti Orchestra during the RadioTour Holland 2019, and he has toured with Amsterdam Klezmer Band, performing in Czech Republic, Germany, France, and The Netherlands. He is a co-founder of Cinco en Clave, a Latin-Jazz quintet with whom they recently recorded for Dutch National Television, and performed in GrachtenFestival Amsterdam.
In 2023, he has been part of Yara's Wedding, a project with Asko|Schönberg, Club Guy & Roni, Slagwerk Den Haag (NITE) and Schauspiel Hannover.
In early 2024, he explores the vibrant music scene in Cuba, courtesy of the esteemed Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds scholarship.
